Writing from Canada. Via South Asia.

Review Policy

I am happy to hear from authors, publishers, and publicists about books for review. I review literary fiction and non-fiction, and tend to focus on immigrant and feminist writing. I do not review genre fiction unless the work has a South Asian angle.

My review may be posted on this blog, or published in a literary magazine, or appear in both, at my discretion. I am a regular contributor to The Asian Review of Books (Hong Kong), Eclectica (USA), and Montreal Serai (Canada). My work also appears in Bookslut, rabble.ca, World Literature Today, The Missouri Review and much more. Please see the left sidebar for a partial list of places where my writing may be found.

Some of my blog posts may be cross-posted at DesiPundit, an Indian-American blog aggregator site with over 25000 feed subscribers.

Review Schedule: I will review books within 4-6 weeks of receipt if the review is to appear on my blog. For reviews published in a literary journal, the time taken might be upto 6 months, depending on the editorial schedule of the concerned publications.

Policy: I am very selective about the books I review. I will usually not bother reviewing  a book I dislike unless I have already committed to doing the piece for a publication.

I try to be nice while writing a review. I believe writers deserve it–it is not easy to put yourself out there. That said, please note my standard disclaimer: The receipt of a free book does not in any way oblige me to write a (favorable) review. My reviews are based solely on the perceived merit of the work.
